The House of Representatives on Wednesday summoned Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), to appear before it.
The directive came from its Special Ad-Hoc Committee overseeing the implementation of the state of emergency proclaimed on Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.
Ibas is to appear before the panel in Abuja on Thursday at the National Assembly.
The committee, which was inaugurated on Tuesday by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, held its inaugural meeting on Wednesday when it resolved to invite the administrator.
He is to address the panel in detail on the situation in Rivers state since the declaration of emergency rule and his assumption of office.
House spokesman, Hi on. Akintunde Rotimi, in a statement, the meeting served as a platform for committee members to review early reports and ongoing developments from the state.
The committee, which is acting under its constitutional mandate in line with Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), is determined to carry out full legislative oversight of the situation.
Chairman of the committee, Hon Julius Ihonvbere, emphasised that the engagement with Vice Admiral Ibas is crucial for understanding the actual state of affairs in the state and to ensure the House is well-informed as it fulfills its oversight responsibilities in the interest of the Nigerian public.
The statement explained further, “The Sole Administrator is expected to appear before the Committee on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 4:00 PM, in Room 414, House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
“A formal letter of invitation has been sent and acknowledged accordingly. This public announcement serves to reinforce transparency in the Committee’s proceedings.
“The Committee reiterates its commitment to fulfilling its duties with diligence, transparency, and strict adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
