For the second time under one week, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday rejected the petition seeking to recall Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi-Central Senatorial District at the Senate.
INEC posted on its Facebook handle that the controversial petition did not meet provisions of the 1999 Constitution as expressly stated in Section 69(a) of the Constitution.
“The petition for the recall of the Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District has not met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended)”, the electoral umpire wrote.
The commission had earlier stated the petition lacked essential contact details and did not meet the necessary requirements for further processing.
However, INEC later admitted the petition after the petitioners provided the said details only to reject it again on Thursday.
Sen. Akpoti-Uduaghan is currently serving a six-month suspension for gross misconduct arising from violation of Senate rules.
