Pinnick fails to retain FIFA Council seat, loses re-election

The dream of former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Mr Amaju Pinnick, to retain his membership of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has been shattered.

He lost his re-election bid, finishing 6th with 28 votes among the 12 candidates who participated in the exercise.

The 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly was held in Cairo, Egypt, where the Nigerian narrowly missing out on a seat by just one vote.

Mauritania’s Yahia Ahmed and Djibouti’s Souleiman Waberi secured the final spots instead.

Pinnick was first elected to the council in 2021 and was the third Nigerian to hold the position.
