The faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State led by Tony Okocha, has asked Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resign from office or face the option of being impeached by the State House of Assembly.
He made this demand during a press conference in Port Harcourt on Monday, accusing the governor of mismanaging the state and failing in his responsibilities.
He stated that Fubara has only two choices; either resign or be removed through impeachment, according to the empowered newswire.
The party leader alleged that the current administration has thrown the state into a political crisis, creating instability and uncertainty.
He further claimed that the Supreme Court, in a recent ruling, pointed out that there is no effective government in Rivers State. Okocha also accused the governor of multiple constitutional violations, which he described as sufficient grounds for impeachment.
Okocha went on to state that Fubara has lost the authority to summon members of the State House of Assembly for discussions or decision-making processes.
The crisis in Rivers State has been ongoing for months, with increasing tensions between different political factions.
