Robbers kill army general in FCT…Police begin manhunt for suspects

Suspected armed robbers have shot dead a retired senior army officer, Brig-Gen. Uwem Harold Udokwere, in his Abuja residence.

Udokwere was said to have been shot dead in the early hours of Saturday, June 22, 2024, at his Sunshine Homes Estate in Abuja.

The killers attacked the Sunshine Homes Estate about 3am according to the FCT police report

According to the police, a manhunt has been launched to track down the suspects.

The FCT Police Command stated that the Commissioner of Police, Ben Igweh, had ordered immediate and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.

FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement on Saturday night that, “In response to the tragic and unprecedented attack at Sunshine Homes Estate by armed robbers, resulting in the untimely demise of Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere (retd.) on June 22, 2024, at approximately 03:00 am, the commissioner of police, FCT, CP Ben Igweh has promptly ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding this regrettable event.”

The statement said CP Igweh had also expressed profound condolences to the bereaved family and assured them and the public of swift justice for the murderers.

The police commissioner was quoted to have said every effort would be made to ensure that the perpetrators of the atrocious act were apprehended and brought to justice.
